At Kumquat, every dish is inspired by authentic Asian cuisine, crafted by Chef Patron Alex Boyd. With nearly 30 years of experience in Michelin-starred restaurants and prestigious hotels in London and Hong Kong, Alex has worked with renowned chefs like Joel Robuchon and Pierre Koffman. He earned two AA rosettes as Executive Chef at the 4 AA Red Starred Hotel St Ermin’s and led the kitchens at Mansion House, cooking for dignitaries, royalty, and world leaders. Inspired by the flavours of Asia, Alex combines classical dishes with modern techniques to create a dynamic menu. We source only the finest ingredients, and our selection of handcrafted cocktails, wines, and beers complements the menu perfectly. Whether you're enjoying a multi-course meal or a casual snack, Kumquat's vibrant yet elegant atmosphere is ideal for any occasion—whether dining with friends, family, or clients. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

We are a country Gastropub owned by farmers. Our farm supplies the beef, lamb and pork and we source other ingredients from local producers where we can. Our small seasonal menu changes regularly reflecting what is available in our area. We pride ourselves on being very much a country pub, offering freshly prepared seasonal food and a warm welcome. We also love offering locally produced drinks, such as gins, rums, ales and wines, giving you the complete taste of Sussex.

Surprisingly tasty food and combinations. I wasn’t expecting the quality. This was, however, the valentines set menu. The wine list had the wrong St Emillon on (or they only held a different one to the one on the list). The price should have been about £40 not £54. I didn’t bother asking and they apologised for the mismatch. Loved the food.

We had a great lunch for three of us. The only challenge was choosing from the many excellent choices on the menu. The staff were so friendly and attentive. A great place which lived up to our memories of previous visits.

We went for Sunday lunch and had a lovely time. Cocktails are amazing, food was delicious, decor was great. The only downside was that the service was very slow and waiting staff not very attentive as in we sat with empty glasses for a long time and no-one came over to the table really except to take our order or serve the food. Also not enough gravy on the roast but that is a personal preference. Overall though loved The Hengist and would definitely go back!
