We were seated outside of the restaurant in some sort of atrium.....we were very much looking forward to enjoying the historic ambience of the restaurant and were quite disappointed with where we were seated - would have broken in to smaller groups if we had known this

This place has an incredible ambience and vibe from the moment you walk in the door. The cocktails and wine were excellent and the food had phenomenal flavor. Our personal favorites were the appetizer meatballs, the fried chicken sandwich, the crab cake sandwich, and the chocolate chip bread pudding for dessert. Would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a nice dinner out while exploring the city. We will definitely come back again in the future!

First time dining here, in town for a conference. Incredible meal. Oysters were incredibly fresh and delicious. The scallop dish was full of flavor and filling. The highlight though was the Tuna in olive oil and capers conservas. An item I’ve never seen on a menu so I thought I’d try. In a big fan of Italian tuna in olive oil so I knew I’d love it. I was not disappointed. A uniquely delicious meal for sure. I’d come back again and again just for this. I’m sure many overlook it since it’s technically tinned fish. But trust me. It’s phenomenal.

It’s lived up to its reputation. The fried chicken rice bowl exceeded my expectations.

We loved almost everything about this renowned historical establishment! First the service: Jenny was a top knotch server! She’s was a very experienced server there with 20+ years of service. We were lucky to get her as our waiter. The food: My husband started with the clam chowder, he thoroughly enjoyed the creaminess & abundance of clams. My kids enjoyed their Cesar salad, my daughter thought it needed more dressing but (she likes it drowning in dressing) I thought that it was perfect. For dinner I got the crab cakes as were recommended to me by a family member. They were the best I’d ever had! My husband got the filet mignon it was cooked perfectly and it tasted amazing! My daughter got the pasta which was ok, but probably would not order again. Overall we loved this restaurant! The ambiance is low lit, classic, timeless and comfortable. I would recommend this place highly! We will be back next time we’re in DC!

The crab cakes are the best I have ever had. Try it by itself or in bun with lettuce and tomatoes. The location is great! 2 minutes walk to the front of the White House, not counting the crosswalk light.
