The Bateman Arms was built c.1750 by Sir James Bateman (Lord Mayor Of London) as a building where his Estate workers would collect on pay day. Over the years it became a staging post for weary Drovers to refresh themselves as they walked livestock from West Wales to markets in Birmingham and London.Today, Mike Pope and his team provide a warm welcome to both locals and the many business and leisure visitors who travel to the Marches throughout the year. Overlooking the historic Ludford bridge, just a few minutes walk from the town centre of Ludlow, the Charlton Arms is the epitome of a charming Pub. For the dog lovers amongst you, well behaved dogs are allowed in, and with the beautiful walks around Ludlow and its Whitcliffe Common, muddy boots are always a feature of the pub!
