We are here on a Saturday evening, family of 3 with a toddler. The place was decorated beautifully for Christmas. The staff were friendly but appeared to be overstretched. Food was delicious although we had to ask if there was actually crab in the prawn and crab linguine. I was assured there was. Service was good although a little slow. Food wasn’t overly hot when it arrived but it was ok.

Superb meal. Great steak ( Taylor’s of Derbyshire so you will never go wrong) perfectly cooked. Also excellent sea bass. The profiteroles and chef made sauce are dangerously good! Wonderful service, attentive without hovering and lovely to chat to. Booked for a larger group visit in February on the spot. First rate.

Very nice place. Lovely food and great atmosphere. Cocktail was the best I’ve ever had! Service very good, the assistant manager is very friendly and helpful. Food was so tasty! Was my second visit. Highly recommend!

Responded to the Christmas Menu free Prosecco offer. There was only one starter available but they responded by offering any starter. We had Calamari, which was extremely generous and could have shared one. Then we ordered a sirloin steak at £5 supp. It was delicious, perfectly cooked. Then really excellent Profiteroles. When they brought the bill they had cancelled the supp charge for the steak for the "inconvenience" of choosing our favourite starter!! All the serving staff were extremely pleasant. We've been a few times and we'll obviously be going back!!

Booked a table as location was convenient to catch up with friends for food and drinks. I had not eaten here for several years and had seen mixed reviews. Whilst the pub itself was maybe more busy than usual on the run up to Christmas service did not take long at the bar. My friends ordered pie and chips, fish and chips whilst I had ordered Mediterranean linguine with additional chicken. When the order arrived , there was no chicken with my pasta and the pie and chips looked extremely underwhelming - size of portion mainly. As it happened we hadn’t been charged for the chicken and as it would have taken 10 minutes to arrive, decided it really wasn’t that essential. The linguine was ok, plenty of vegetables and whilst the fish and chips looked uninspiring were quite nice. I will certainly go to the Abbey again for drinks but can’t say any of us would be ordering food in the future.

We stayed one night and had dinner at Duncombe Arms. The accommodation is really lovely - rooms are so well appointed and very clean. Great walk-in shower and one of the most comfortable beds we have slept on in a hotel / guest house. Lovely views from the room with table and chairs outside for when it's not snowing! The meal was outstanding!! One of the nicest rib-eye steaks I have had for along time. Although the wine list appeared shorter than usual with some crossed off, what I had was very good (lovely Malbec to go with the steak). The breakfast was excellent, as was the service throughout. Will be back for sure.

Had a lovely meal on New Year’s Day while we were on a trip to the Peak District for new years from Kent, we loved the food and the service here! Very worth a visit and dog friendly which was a bonus!

I can never fault the Malt Shovel. Food is always immense. Cooked to perfection, served hot. Portions are huge, always too much for me and feel guilty when I have to life some as it's no reflection on the meal itself We brought friends from our the area today and also very impressed Would highly recommend and always always book. Fantastic food as always came to just over £80 for 3 with starters and a drink each, and that was using my NHS discount. What's fab is how the staff explain how to eat what you've ordered to get the best experience from your food. You can clearly see the staff are happy and that makes everything much more enjoyable.

We had 11 tapas between four of us. Some qualified for the lunch special deal so we had bread included. Bread was delicious and essential to make the most of the various sauces. We’ve been many times before and once again we were not disappointed. We each have our favourites like the lentils/chorizo and the Gambas al ajillo. Some new ones made it to top of the list : blue cheese croquetas, cauliflower and the baked goat’s cheese(this was a special for the day). We will return with no hesitation.

First time visiting The Malt House in many years and we were not disappointed. Welcomed as we walked through the door shown to our table and presented with a varied menu. It was nice to see on a Sunday menu not just roast dinners. My husband chose the fish and chips. He said it was one of the best pieces of cod he had in along time and he is not easily pleased. Both my mum and I chose roast dinners which were served piping hot and with a separate bowl of vegetables. The serving staff were attentive and polite without being intrusive and nothing was too much trouble. We have booked again and are looking forward to trying their midweek menu which includes authentic homemade curries. It may have taken years for us to return but I think we have found a gem!

The bottomless brunch is such a great value for money it really was. I only had 2 issues but they didn't spoil my afternoon so it's still 5 starts. Issue 1. It was very cold in the restaurant but with how big the building was it didn't surprise me. Issue 2. The beef from the beef ramen was dry and of poor quality but out of all 10+ dishes I tried only 1 part of a dish disappointed. I would seriously recommend anyone going here for sushi. Great price, staff friendly, building is beautiful, food is outstanding.
