Willie Mae’s Scotch House, established in 1957, is a historic restaurant in New Orleans. After receiving the prestigious James Beard Award in 2005, Hurricane Katrina caused severe damage. Ospi is the sophomore restaurant of Jackson & Melissa Kalb, focused on Southern Italian cooking and way of life. The name derives from ospitante (“host” in Italian), with the expectation that guests will feel as comfortable at Ospi as they would at a friend’s dinner party. There will be plenty of house-made pastas as well as an expanded offering of pizzas. The beverage program crafted by Kalb features mostly Californian and Southern Italian wines and a full bar with a special negroni section.     We had booked a reservation for Christmas Eve a month in advance, but when we arrived we were not seated for 30 minutes past our reservation time. Nevertheless, once we were seated the service was prompt and friendly, and all of the food was delicious. The various vegetable sides were terrific, including the broccolini, the kombucha squash, and the carrots.

    Had a great time. The waitress was more than patient with friends and I. One of them had diet restrictions and she patiently gave us time to figure out how the menu would work for her. The seating and lights where stunning and food was really good. To our surprise, we came on a day they did karaoke and had a lot of fun before heading out. We stayed much longer than we thought we would. Love the free parking. Cute little quaint area. Would definitely go back for the try all menu.
