In the Royal Lancaster Hotel, the Nipa Thai restaurant has been named after the original Nipa Restaurant in the Landmark Hotel in Bangkok. Lots of teak panelling, traditional Thai furnishings and artefacts lend an authentic air. All the staff dressed in traditional Thai costume are from Thailand - even the lady chefs. This authentic Thai restaurant is one of the first 15 recipients of the 'Thai Select' award - this award has been described as being the first ever Michelin-style award for Thai restaurants proven to be performing to the highest standards of quality and cuisine, and is awarded by the Thai Government. We think this award sums up Nipa Thai rather nicely. What's cooking? Regionally inclined Punjabi cuisine is the main draw at this incongruously located Indian (one of eight branches worldwide), pitched beneath a vast block of flats. Having undergone a major refurbishment, the restaurant has emerged with a polished bar area decked out in dark walnut, while the dining room has been brightened up with cream walls, rich gold fabrics and statement glass chandeliers giving off a warm glow. Dishes on the revamped menu are absolutely faultless – witness crisp shreds of okra fried in the lightest of batters, perfect mouthfuls of tandoor-grilled chicken tikka, and juicy jumbo prawns expertly roasted in a clay oven. Regional specialities, such as nalli gosht (slow-cooked lamb shank and saffron curry, from the city of Lucknow) also delight, although prices are firmly attuned to the luxurious postcode.

    A great find behind the very busy Edgware Road. A small, quaint basic restaurant, but the food was authentic. It was constantly busy, so I am presuming it is testimony to the quality of the food. When I arrived (5.20pm), the restaurant was not open (5.30pm opening). It was raining, and despite me standing outside getting wet, I was a little perturbed that they did not open the door and invite me in - I found that very strange!! Apart from that, the staff were very attentive and sometimes a little too eager to remove our plates, even though we had not finished. I do not like my hot food to be put on cold plates, a little aggravating, but something that should be addressed.

    We came here for valentine's and had the set menu, every dish was so good, well presented and full of flavour. The staff were extremely nice and helpful and put a custom valentines message on my girlfriend dessert 🥰 10/10 We will be doing a food blog on IG and Tiktok tomorrow: Nishandmarv ✨

    Very interesting starters - we had the cauliflower and brockli and felt we were getting two of our five! Curries delicious. Very nice service. We were getting a train from Paddington and was a perfect distance for us to have a good meal and then catch the train.
