The bar staff made our night! We popped in for dinner before the opera and opted for the bar for time. The staff was efficient and expedient while not skimping in elevating us to a fine dining experience. From the surprise duck fat fries to the expertly made cocktails, we pivoted from thinking we’d order burgers to ordering exquisite steaks (filet and NY strip), along with the loaded baked potato and broccolini. The food was divine and our glasses of can paired perfectly. The hiccup: It’s pricey. We eat at a lot of fine steakhouses around the country and this one seems to go a little overboard on relying on expense account patrons. This was one of the most expensive dinners for 2 we’ve had (outside of Tokyo) and while it was lovely and delicious and a fun kick off to our date night, I don’t know that wed spend that much again. 2 cocktails, 2 steaks, 2 sides, and 2 glasses of wine put us near the $400 mark before tip.

Lobster ravioli appetizer was outstanding! Filet of sole meunière is just about the best in the city. The soufflés are legendary, signature offerings. Scrumptious! Delicious Pouilly Fume from a distinguished and carefully assembled wine list to complement our meal. In a city with few remaining ‘Washington institutions’ on its dining scene- since faddish restaurants come and go so quickly - La Chaumiere is in a class by itself: completely comfortable from the moment you cross the threshold; always delicious; always welcoming; always reliable; totally timeless!

Great food! Great staff! Atmosphere was upbeat and perfect for dinner - not too quiet, not too loud. We had appetizers, New York strip, and scallops - all cooked to perfection. The presentation on all dishes was well-thought too - something we appreciate.
