Restaurants near Kerr Wildlife Management Area

This is our favorite spot in Kerrville to have an excellent bite to eat and enjoy the comfort of a riverside location. Tyler is an excellent wait-staff, and he has a nice pace at table side. The Osso Bucco looked delicious but we settled on duck breast and ahi tuna with avocado plus a side of French onion soup. It was a cooler evening, so the comfort food did not disappoint. Sides of Brussel sprouts and sweet potato confit were perfect. This restaurant is consistent and delicious in service and food.

French Toast was fabulous. Eggs over easy were perfectly cooked. The omelets were awesome!

My wife and I are spending the weekend on a little staycation in the Texas Hill Country, and I made reservations at the Rails for Valentine’s Dinner. They didn’t disappoint. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, and what cool venue! It’s an old train depot that was in service from 1915 - 1970’s. The food was off the charts good. The bread they bring out before the meal (baked in their bakery) along with this light olive oil with pepper is fantastic. We had the smoked salmon appetizer - one of the best I’ve ever eaten. My wife had the salmon and rice dish, and I had the Bison Burger. I may have helped my wife with her salmon as well….. They make all their desserts in house at the bakery next store. Unbelievable spread of options. We chose the homemade Banana Pudding. I can’t stop thinking about it, and I’m not a huge pudding fan, but this pudding is in another level - like different planet kind of level. The bottom line is we will be back. It’s less than an hour drive from home and well worth the trip. Highly Recommend!

Had escargo, mussels and mushroom pastry. Martinis and Spicy Paloma. All were excellent. The service was really great with a lot of attention on Valentines even though they were super busy. Felt the personal touch even from the folks who run the place.

The hostess was great and took us immediately to our table. The ambiance was great. The server tried but still forgot about us at times. Initially thought it was due to lack of enough staff but as the evening declined she was not as quick responding as she could have been. The kitchen seemed to be in mass confusion and the servers were having to explain or take the complaints. Orders were slow, incorrect when leaving kitchen, and not well done. The brown sugar brined pork chop was dry and not tender at all. The “bison” country fried steak was somewhat tender, not great. The mashed potatoes were, eh, just okay. The wedge salad was just okay as well. Surprisingly out of the whole meal, the collard greens were the best on the plate. The price for the meal was expensive when quality of the product is considered. If I’m paying the resort level price the food should be top notch resort level chef cooked food.
