On May 13, 1931, Giuseppe Cipriani opened Harry's Bar in Venice. Over the years, Harry's Bar has become the place where writers, painters, artists, aristocrats, kings, and queens would meet. Among them were: Barbara Hutton, Katherine Hepburn, Gary Cooper, Giancarlo Menotti, Peggy Guggenheim, Orson Welles, Frank Lloyd Wright, Joe DiMaggio, Truman Capote, and Ernest Hemingway. The keys to the success of this small bar were: service, freedom, and lack of imposition.Throughout its 93-year history, Harry's Bar has witnessed the 20th century in Venice. Its importance was also recognized by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, which declared it a national reference point in 2001. Afternoon tea experience. First rate selection of teas, infusions, sandwiches, cakes and beautiful scones. Wonderfully comfortable salon under stunning and enormously valuable Ai Weiwei chandelier. Arrive by boat or quiet discrete front entrance. Stay for the 5pm sabre opening of champagne to mark the transition of day to evening at the St Regis. It’s great fun. The staff are extremely hospitable, warm and engaging and they work hard.

Went for an all American Christmas dinner here while in Venice. From the appetizers of wings, spicy shrimp, and nachos then to our entrees of ribs, salmon noodle bowl, and classic burgers, we were stuffed. The portions were big that we couldn't finish our entrée. There was never ending refills coming our way as well. Our server Fabio and the rest of the staff were courteous throughout our dining experience.
