Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails. On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

Sète (named after the coastal town in France) is a wine bar, shop, and kitchen. Our doors opened to the wine bar in October 2022 and the restaurant and garden in July 2023. The seasonal menu focuses on modern European cooking with a heavy French influence, highlighting the best produce Kent has to offer. Wine is certainly at the heart of what we love. With an ever evolving list that highlights old world classics, accessible natural wines, female winemakers and exciting next generation vintners. We also serve a seasonally changing list of wine on tap and host private tastings. Behind Sète is Natalia Ribbe who has worked across restaurants in Vienna, NYC and London, as well as the founder of the female collective; L.O.R. In the kitchen is Head Chef Billy Stock who joins us from The Rose Inn in Wickembraux, St. John, The Marksman and Rochelle at the ICA to name a few. Everything about going to Captain Digby’s with a family and friends and their family is great. It’s our go-to for the catch up with friends who also have kids and that usually makes eating out quite difficult…but not a CD’s! Their staff are super welcoming and accommodating, their tables are spacious and not too cluttered with things kids like to fling around, the kids menus are super easy to navigate and the soft play is a total game changer. I had the steak today and it was ‘melt in your mouth’ good. We were able to hold conversation with our friends, service was prompt and on point and we didn’t feel like we were in the way one bit. Thanks Captain Dignys’s for yet another super catch up lunch with friends after a walk along Bontany Bay.

We had a superb celebratory birthday breakfast - delicious breakfast cocktails and an amazing build your own cooked breakfast which our daughter loved! An absolute treat with amazing sea views whilst the windy weather blew passerbys down the street. We were very jealous of the customers booked in for Sunday lunch after us as the yorkshire puddings looked incredible!!

Best roast I've had. Big portions that I thought I could not manage all my dessert but I discovered my other belly! It was my birthday and they looked after me well. Highly recommend this place, I go regularly.
