Restaurants near Daughters of The Republic of Texas Museum

This was probably the best dining experience my gf and I have had in Austin so far, from start to finish. We didn’t know what to expect, but they had a great selection of drinks, appetizers, and entrees, desserts. The ambiance was nice. It’s a little pricey but really pretty typical of upscale Mexican restaurants around here. We had margaritas, salsa tasting, Mexican chicken noodle soup, chicken fajitas, and the wagyu fajitas. Churros for dessert. Everything was 10/10, and the service was top tier. Our server was great, but what’s even better is that all the other staff were very friendly and super quick to help out with any requests. We’d highly recommend.

We have been waiting to try Este for a bit of time. We made reservations for a birthday celebration and it did not disappoint. The wonderful experience of food, ambiance, and flavors were elevated by the exceptional service from our waiter, Luke. He made us feel like we were his only patrons in the restaurant, although I knew we weren’t. He was personal, helpful with recommendations, and made my husband’s birthday dinner memorable and special. We recommend this new Austin gem to all!

We made a reservation through OpenTable for a Saturday evening, four people. When we arrived, there was no one at the host desk. We and another party waited for several minutes. I was heading toward the kitchen to find out if anyone could help us, when the hostess came to the desk. Once she arrived, she was very friendly and quickly got both parties seated. I don't think I needed the reservation; there were many empty tables. Noise level was low. Our waiter came by promptly and took our drink orders. He returned with drinks and the biscuits, which were delicious. We ordered fish and chips (two), grilled mahi and blackened trout. We also got sides - cole slaw, broccoli, and orzo rice The food came out quickly and was hot. Everything tasted good and we enjoyed the meal. The fried cod has a crispy batter and flaky inside -- very nice. There was a mix up on one of the sides, but it was resolved. Our waiter checked in on us several times and kept our drinks replenished. All in all, we had an excellent meal at a reasonable price with friendly service. I was expecting to see more of a crowd there. The food is really good, although the ambience is a bit too quiet and dark.
