Food terrific. Staff very professional and attentive.

We've been here several times and are never disappointed! It's a hidden (literally) gem in Cookeville. I love to bring our out of town guests to 1854. It's a warm, inviting spot to enjoy some delicious appetizers and well crafted cocktails.

My thoughts after 4 visits and multiple conversations with friends who've also enjoyed meals at Judith: Go now before foodies make this destination dining. Owner Julia Sullivans seasonal menu is straightforward, yet every seemingly uncomplicated item is the best fill-in-the-blank you've ever tasted. She is personally invested (her physician father attended Sewanee as an undergrad, she grew up spending time here) and ever-present, often delivering food to the table herself. And she knows her business down to the last parmesean-dusted-crisp-heavenly french fry. Just ask her legions of fans developed over a decade of running the ever-popular Henrietta Red in Nashville. Those of us who spend on the mountain are pinching ourselves for having the good fortune to watch a culinary star in action while savoring every bite.

This is the first Christmas that I didn't get to be with my whole family for a home cooked meal, so I thought I'd try going with my boyfriend. Thank you, we enjoyed it.

Weird combination! Narrow structured space (The old Maple Street Grill) has a new vibe! The big screen TVs lining the walls shout sports bar. The weird pop music from famous Y2K girl bands plus lighting that is just "off" makes one wonder - "What am I in for??" The waitress we had was pleasant and seemed new. When I asked about wine by the bottle she had to ask someone else. It isn't listed on the menu. We did find out that we could purchase a bottle but a chiller was not provided - it did get a bit warm. The grilling your own food experience is fun and certainly adds to the dining experience. We hit serious issues when we simply could not get more rice! Sounds bizarre but it was a bummer! Our food had some "kick" to it so the rice would help with the neutralizing of the spice. After numerous request for additional rice I simply took matters into my own hands and asked someone behind the bar. We did enjoy the food and the perceived value. Service and atmosphere can hopefully benefit from the mandatory group meetings.
