The server was very nice but got one of my sides wrong and put an extra ribeye on our bill. We made a reservation but got a bad table right by the door so we had a cold draft. They ran out of the Beast of Bourbon cocktail. Steak was overdone on the outside. Disappointing.

First, I love J. Gilbert's. However, I recently tried the Sunday brunch and was quite disappointed. Besides nothing being labeled, which is ridiculous for a buffet, the options were just lacking. Some of the food wasn't even hot. It just wasn't the quality I've been become accustomed to with J. Gilbert's.

Service was horrible, including the unhelpful person at reception and our waiter, who disappeared for more than 40 minutes at one point. While some food was fine, there was no rare prime rib, one guest had to complain to three people to get a jelly she wanted, there was no butter, the salmon made a guest allergic to sea food gag it smelled so bad, and there were almost no dessert options. All of this would be fine, except this brunch is too pricey to be so limited and without attentive wait staff.

I had high expectations for an upscale dining experience at J. Gilbert’s, but unfortunately, the evening fell short. Upon arrival, the hostess initially tried to seat us in an overflow room at the back of the restaurant, which didn’t feel appropriate for the occasion. After requesting a different table, we were placed in the main dining room, but the table shook throughout the meal—likely due to its connection to the kitchen. The service was friendly but unprofessional. The waiter’s demeanor felt more condescending than hospitable, as if he were addressing a child rather than an adult guest. It made the experience feel less refined than I expected from a restaurant at this price point. As for the food, it was underwhelming. I ordered the lamb medium, but it arrived closer to medium-well or even well-done. For the cost, I expected better execution and attention to detail. Overall, the experience was mediocre at best, and I wouldn’t dine here again.

The food was fabulous! We definitely will be back. The two areas that made it not the best experience was our waitress. She was not very inattentive and just acted like she was put out. The other area was we were sat in the very back and seated right next to other diners. I felt like we had no privacy. Way too crowded. The other areas of the restaurant looked perfect for dining. I will go back but only if seated in the nicer area of the restaurant.

Great food, service and atmosphere. We went for steak but couldn’t resist the scallops and risotto. Delicious! A red rose was on every table for Valentine’s Day. We had a wonderful time.

This was our first visit to J. Gilberts in McLean. The food was delicious and the service was great. My only complaint was that the booth seating was too low. Apparently, they did some work on the floors and even the booths themselves, but the seat in our booth was so low that it felt like that table was at your chest. Hopefully, they can resolve this issue. Everything else was great!
