62 years of loyal customers can't be wrong. We are grateful to all of our customers, employees, and critics (...though we may not always agree!). The only way to find out the truth is with a visit. Oft imitated, never duplicated. Thank you in advance.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: Open since 1949, this legendary destination is the king of San Francisco steakhouses. From luxurious carved-to-order prime rib rolled out on carts to chefs spinning salads to extra-large martinis with sidecars, every meal in the restaurant’s old-school dining room decked with ruby-hued booths is rollicking and unforgettable.

Salad was amazing, bread was mediocre, along with the baked potato. Mashed potato was quite a delight. I ordered the house cut, it was miraculous, very juicy, and tender, I barely used the knife really. Service was amazing and very hospitable, however had its slow moments, not a wonder with such a crowd and number of full tables. Patience and manners should be kept in mind when dealing with the lovely staff.

Arrived about 10-15 minutes before our reservation time and checked-in at the front; was told that they were waiting for a table to open up in the Octagon Room; so we waited about 15 minutes before our name was called to be seated. We were not seated in the Octagon Room as requested in my reservation that was booked a year in advance; even though there was an empty table in that room. We were sat in the back room where the restrooms are located; which is not very well lit and darker than the rest of the areas in the restaurant. Our server did not ask if we were here to celebrate anything (yes we were here for a Birthday). Service took a long time for us to order as it seems that waiters are now serving multiple tables at once. The King Henry cut has now been reduced to half its size of what I was used to getting when ordering this slice; which is very very disappointing. We were also not offered any cornbread, even though we saw two of the larger tables get offered right in front of us. As each year passes, the level of service becomes very inconsistent, the second slice offered becomes smaller and smaller. The most disappointing part of the evening was not being offered anything for celebrating a Birthday; which we usually get a sorbet every year.

I’ve been to House of Prime Rib many times, but never went this late. The food was awesome. I feel like the Henry cut did get smaller, but was still pretty delicious. We did feel like we were getting rushed trying to get our orders in and last cuts. Even the Chef looked pretty irritated towards the end of the night. I still would recommend this place, but I suggest not going on the last reservation time slot.

We were a party of 6 and 3 ordered king Henry cuts and 3 house cuts. When the prime rib came out they were all the same size except the king Henry had the bone attached. That was pretty disappointing. I guess you pay extra for the bone that you can’t eat. :( on top of that…the waiter splashed salad dressing on my son’s new coat. For the amount of money we paid and experience. We won’t be going back.

Always a great experience. We had a reservation over at fuego de chao-SF and they had over 50 tables / families waiting with reservation in the waiting area, what a great way to ruin someone’s family holiday dinner.
