Grünauer offers a classic Viennese gasthaus menu in the beautiful, historic Freighthouse. Located just north of Union Station in KC's premier dining and arts neighborhood- The Crossroads, Grünauer has been serving authentic Austrian and Central European cuisine since 2010 (with a focus on German and Hungarian as well). A beautiful biergarten, a gorgeous full bar and a lofted event space all add to the ambience and character of this KC classic. Make your reservation today! Classic dishes such as Hungarian beef gulasch (goulash), wiener schnitzel, apple strudel and more are always available. Frequent seasonal changes to our menu allow us to incorporate local produce, hiqh quality proteins and other items that are not available year round.

      I had a lovely experience at Grünauer. I made a reservation last minute on a Thursday evening. I intended to walk from Loews. but it was 14 degrees and I chickened out. It is an historic, urban area near the spectacular train station and WWI memorial, and the area was active and popular on a Thursday night. There is indeed ample, convenient parking. The staff was attentive and friendly without being unctuous; the dining room was beautiful, high-ceiling and historic; the food was wonderful and unusual. I had a drink off the menu - the Beidermeier - which was very good, and two Austrian wines, a red and a white, recommended by my excellent server, which I enjoyed very much and am now searching out through my wine vendor. I ordered Austrian specialties from the menu and every course was delicious. Kudos - a terrific restaurant.

      Last minute reservation with seating in the bar area. We had a lovely corner booth and excellent service. I had the restaurant week dinner of rote linsensuppe, kaiserschnitzel and schokoladensouffle. Everything was delicious. I had a radler with it which was perfect. My husband had rohnensalat, pork schnitzel and the same dessert. Perfect dinner for both of us.

      Grunauer is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is amazing and they have great vegetarian options that are as good as any dish you’ll find on their menu or anywhere else. Service is always wonderful and the atmosphere transports me too Europe.

      Ambience is quite like Europe and service was very efficient. We enjoyed chicken schnitzel and the zweibelrosbraten. The portions are huge for a woman’s portion. Did not want the dessert so cannot respond to that. Our server was very attentive and we appreciated her help and advice. This is a winner and will be coming back
