FOOD - DRINKS - FRIENDS....the Milanese Apericena comes to Denver!Voghera prides itself in being the first and only restaurant offering APERICENA in the United States. This modern Milanese style of dining is derived from the combination of the words Aperitivo (happy hour) and Cena (dinner). Very similar to the Spanish tapas, Apericena is a convivial experience which embraces small plates and drinks to encourage sharing and the opportunity to savor different flavors and dishes. An entire meal can be composed of smaller dishes or sample one or two alongside larger plates, like our signature Cotoletta alla Milanese – breaded bone-in 16oz veal cutlet – the fresh meat and fish of the day, as well as enjoy our Menu Milanese – a 4- course prix-fixe that revolves around Milan’s best known dishes. Our small but seasonal menu is inspired by the culinary tradition of Milan and also represents the Northen Italian cuisine.

Our menu is inspired by the Mexican regions of Yucatán, Oaxaca, and Veracruz. We strive to respect the influences and traditions of these diverse cultures to bring you food that is uniquely El Jefe. We believe in doing things the right way. Not because it’s trendy or cool, but because it’s right. We change our menu with the grow season, supporting our neighbors and the terroir of Colorado. We are not your average Mexican joint, rather a reflection of our environment and beliefs. We hand make our tortillas every day. All of our pork comes from one whole hog. Our chefs breakdown the whole animal, for chorizo, appetizers, stocks, soups, and entrees. Nothing is wasted. We do this out of respect for the animal and for the people who raised them for us. Anything we can produce in our kitchen is done by us, with love. No frills, just good food. We do an amazing brunch on the weekends, and by default or menu is nearly 100% gluten free.

It was our second visit and it was just as wonderful. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The ambience takes you back in time with their touch of old school class. The barware they’ve chosen, white tablecloths, dark walls. This is not a place where you are competing with the noise of an open kitchen and music that is too loud. Just the right amount of sound coming from conversation and eating utensils hitting the plate. Prices are right and the food is excellent. It’s not a big menu but we hope to try everything at some point!

Food was delicious and creative. Our waiter was friendly, but there were only two servers and every table was taken, so maybe one more server would’ve meant we would have seen him more. We had the bananas foster sticky bun (omg) the cider braised pork Benedict (very good) and the squash hash (creative and very tasty).

My friend and K really enjoyed Linger! We ordered the pork belly bao, sweet fries, and charred edamame for a shared dinner. All of the food was packed with flavor and delicious. She ordered an old fashioned and I ordered the Thai tea cocktail. She enjoyed her old fashioned and said it was very orange forward, I was unfortunately not a fan of my cocktail but I think only because of personal preference. Overall I still would give it a 5/5. Ambiance was great but it was a tad loud. Looking forward to going back and trying more things!

Our ramales-making cooking group of 6 really enjoyed our reunion at Sunday brunch at El Jefe. We excited with the heat of the guacamole, and the new-to-us Xni Pec salsa. The dishes we ordered were colorful and satisfying with authentic succulent carnitas, outstanding potatoes, delicious hue is rancheros. The service was great—just the right amount of attention. We love the decor and the Sunnyside neighborhood. We’re already talking about when we can return to try the dinner menu with its great variety!
