- JJamesVIPSan Diego •23 reviews5.0Dined 4 days agoWe dined here on a Tuesday evening, to celebrate my wife's birthday. We chose to sit outside, so that we could enjoy the ocean. We got a 4:00 early dinner reservation, so that we would have some daylight before the sunset after 5:00 (January). It was a bit chilly outside, but they have ample propane heaters, so we were very comfortable. The view of the ocean is great from their patios. We shared an Empanada appetizer to start. It was not my favorite. The shell was very hard, and insides were a bit meager. However, both of our entrees were excellent. I had the Seafood Pasta, and my wife had the Paella. If you enjoy seafood, and we do, they were both really, really good. As it was my wife's birthday, the restaurant provided a free dessert for her, which was a kind of bread pudding cake with ice cream and some fruit. It was quite good. The restaurant wound up getting pretty busy, but since we were sitting outside, there was no noise for us, just the ocean waves. I can't say what the noise level was like inside in the dining rooms. We have now eater here 3 times, stretched out over maybe a period of around 1 1/2 years. The restaurant has been under construction that entire time, which is somewhat disconcerting when you drive up to it, as it looks from the street like it might be closed. This construction didn't impact our experience on any of our visits, but I find it odd that it has gone on for so long, making me wonder if the restaurant ran into financial or permit problems. The space that is being renovated I believe was previously a separate restaurant that they are basically absorbing, but I could be wrong about that. One final thing to know is that they have very limited parking, so you will most likely valet, which costs $8. All in all, we had a great experience, and our waitress Ruby was a delight, and I heartily recommend dinner there to everyone. I also recommend that you come early to get the best table, as they do get very busy.More infoPacific Coast Grill - CardiffPrice: Very Expensive• Seafood• Cardiff By The Sea•4.8
