Best Historic Restaurants in Petaluma

Although it was Thanksgiving we decided to order from the menu, and we have no regrets! Our wonderful waitress recommended I have the lamb chops (stating they were the best thing on the menu)…and they were superb! My husband had the surf and turf, but honestly we would order just the steak next time! We started our meal with the prawn cocktail (fabulous) and the lobster ravioli (too salty for our taste). Went back to the Shuckery after our last visit about a year ago. Enjoyed great cocktails and bar menu hush puppies in the hotel lobby beforehand. At the restaurant - our server was very attentive. Had 6 half shell oyster, the claim chowder ($12), calamari mixto ($18) and scallops dish ($20) - all very good but the 3 quarter-sized scallops in that dish seemed too skimpy for the price. It left us wanting. Also although we had reservations at 5:30, at 4:30 we stopped by and tried to move it up to 5pm with the hostess - but were told that they were booked solid and that it wasn't possible. Coming back at 5:20, we were seated right away but couldn't help notice that the restaurant was barely 25% full (and didn't get too many more guests thereafter). Odd service.

I have not had the chance to dine here in a while, but what a great meal to come back to. The special mushroom soup was delicious. Yes, it had cream, but oh so good. The salmon piccata was cooked to perfection. And their famous carrot cake, yum! Service was attentive and allowed us to take our time while eating and meeting over lunch. Looking forward to my next trip.
