Montecatini is a stable for Walnut Creek as it opened October 17, 1989, the day of the Loma Prieta earthquake in California. Since then, Montecatini Ristorante has become a place for "regulars" to enjoy a true Italian dining experience. We are a loud and bustling environment where many have come to say we're like family. All our dishes are meticulously prepared with the finest and freshest ingredients. Our pastas and entrees are served piping hot from our kitchen to your table. Montecatini has been awarded "Best of East Bay" for Best Italian Restaurant in the East Bay Area by Diablo Magazine for several years. As of January 2022 our chef, Ermes Paulin, has passed ownership down to two of Montecatini's long-time employees, Terrance and Taylor George. They plan to keep Montecatini thriving on its "old school" vibe while enhancing the cocktail and wine program. So come in and experience Montecatini for yourself and see what a true hidden gem we are!

Traditionally inspired from dishes, ingredients & techniques spanning the Malay archipelago, namely Singapore & Indonesia. Regionally influenced by Northern California’s palette of producers, produce, and presentation. Essentially: expressing these tropical, cosmopolitan island flavor profiles through the abundance of what thrives in Northern California’s Mediterranean climate and terrain.  Nusantara cuisines could be characterized as intense, rich, spiced (more than spicy). Steeped in time and layers of complexity, both in the kitchen and in the long history of diverse peoples in this part of the world. Chef Nora Haron draws from this wealth of culinary knowledge, plus contrasting Californian influences, which some could say to be the polar opposite: that deconstructed-composed, whole-ingredients-laid-bare simplicity, the lightness that has evolved in California eating through the few decades of this relatively young place.

From the moment we walked into Elia, we knew we were in for a treat. The atmosphere is absolutely stunning—think glowing blue lights, natural decor, and walls adorned with beautifully spaced art pieces that felt like a gallery. Sitting across from my wife, I couldn’t have asked for a better view. The service was equally impressive. We were warmly greeted at the door and invited to enjoy a drink at the bar while waiting for our table amidst a lively crowd. Our server, Lilia, was outstanding. Despite being busy, she made sure we were well taken care of and never felt overlooked. Now, the food—wow. We started with the octopus, followed by the filet mignon and lobster paella. Each dish was cooked to perfection. The paella was packed with rich flavors and seafood, and the lobster tail was perfectly done. The filet mignon? Easily one of the best steaks I’ve had in Walnut Creek, perfectly seasoned and tender. To finish, we indulged in the chocolate cake, which was nothing short of spectacular—the best I’ve ever had. Elia gave us an amazing night filled with exceptional food, ambiance, and service. We’ll absolutely be back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience. Thank you, Elia, for making our evening unforgettable!

I absolutely loved the rooftop. What impressed me was a minimal menu. We had a large group and all the food was worth the value. Not cheap, so the execution of each dish was outstanding. Highly recommend !

It was a very nice environment. They played some mellow pop while I was there. I was not a huge fan of the seating arrangements kinda some smaller tables high chairs. The rainbow roll however was amazing and a few of the other rolls I got were great too. The waiter was very nice and food came out pretty fast
