As a core pillar of our mission, TAKOI operates HiO Farm which is located just a mile north of the restaurant. During the height of farm season, the restaurant highlights dishes prepared with HiO produce utilizing the techniques and flavors inspired by Thailand and beyond. TAKOI, originally KATOI, began as a food truck in 2014, evolved into an Ann Arbor pop-up, and landed as a proper restaurant at 2520 Michigan Avenue in March of 2016. After being open for 11 months, having a slew of fun, and garnering a handful of awards — including a James Beard 'Best New Restaurant' nomination— KATOI was brought back down to earth when it was subjected to arson in February 2017. The day after the fire, the rebuild began, and we opened as TAKOI exactly six months later in August 2017.

We came in from FL booked a chalet for dinner. Our server was great! Drinks were great! The only reason i didn’t do 5 stars is because the chalet was quite cold. Even the server commented on it that “the one we were in felt cold.” Staff tried to turn to the heat up (it’s located in one chalet) but ultimately it never really warmed up in ours..kind of sucks since it’s $35 per person for the experience…but other than that we liked it

Service was wonderful! We ordered a few different things and they were all good, nothing super fantastic but nothing was bad. We loved the big shakes! The decorations inside were great. The only two things I will mention, the music was very loud and there was a bit of a wait to check in with the hostess, but it was very busy tonight. Overall a great dining experience and we will be back!

Our advice is: dont put too much effort on deciding, as everything is absolutely amazing! We've been coming here everytime we came to Detroit since 2022 and we've seen our share of new dishes everytime... and tried them. No regrets whatsoever!
