We are a Laotian restaurant in the heart of the neighborhood of Shaw. Baan Mae means Mom's house in Laotian. Chef Seng of Thip Khao and Padaek is serving up dishes reminiscent of her home kitchen and her mother's kitchen. Mom's House Reservation Policy:All reservations are allowed a 15-minute grace period. All parties must be present at the restaurant to be seated. Located in historic Blagden Alley in D.C.'s Shaw neighborhood since 2015, The Dabney continues to pay tribute to the wonderful farmers, watermen, and purveyors of the mid-Atlantic region whom provide some of the best and most unique products in the country. We celebrate these ingredients by preparing them in a large wood burning hearth which is the centerpiece of our open kitchen. The current dining room experience is an 8-course tasting menu honoring the Mid-Atlantic's bounty. We offer an additional 3-course experience at our bar and bar area tables.     We were so pleased with our dinner last night. We will definitely be coming back. One of the diners was particularly pleased with the fried chicken. It was the best he’s had in quite some time. The fact that he could choose either light or dark meat or both was a treat much appreciated. Our waiter was wonderful. Attentive but not hovering.

    We went during the “pop up” portion of the week so the menu was much shorter than regular Baan Mae. The pop up menu sounded like nothing I had ever seen before so I found it hard to choose. Every single thing we ordered was FABULOUS! Great flavor, great combinations of dishes and lovely service. Chef Ben outdid himself!

    As a DC native, I grew up on half smokes at cookouts, so this restaurant is a fav of mine. The food is excellent, the space has a comfortable vibe, and the service is always friendly. The sandwiches seem a little smaller than a couple years ago but always tasty and well crafted.
