An understated storefront hides a coveted skyline view—just one of the many ways you could underestimate this longtime cafe on Mount Baker’s main drag. The menu, the sign—even the name—are a bit of a throwback, but current owners Guy Devillier and David Hoefer took over in 2018 and keep things attuned to today. Carbonara packs more nuance than you might expect, the slightly crackly pizza’s better than it has to be, and the bar pours lambrusco and negroni.     Dinner was absolutely fantastic! We started with the meatball plate then had the bolognese and Sunday gravy for dinner. We heard the portions were generous but holy cannoli they are HUGE! The bolognese was easily the largest portion I've ever had at an Italian restaurant and triple the size of Pink Doors portion. The Sunday gravy was not just in a bowl, this was the size of a punch bowl. My husband couldn't even finish half of it. Considering the quality of the food with the portion size and the price point our dinner was phenomenal. We have found our new fav Italian restaurant and are truly looking forward to visiting again.

    We reserved an early time for dinner. The host asked if we were there for a special occasion which we were not but nice to know for the future. There were just a few diners so the noise level was low which we like for conversation. Our server was fantastic. He made us feel like we were his only table, and he had a great smile! All five at the table enjoyed their meal and the desserts were yummy.

    I wanted a quality high-end dining experience and I got it. Nell’s has been around for a very long time. The restaurant is intimate without being cramped. Conversation is easy because it’s not noisy. We had quality service and the food is very good. I gave Nell’s 4 stars for value but that might be more indicative of Seattle in general than Nell’s. Compared to dining most anywhere in the world, Seattle is expensive and Nell’s seemed pricey for the portions served. But overall it’s a satisfying experience.

    The warm, welcoming ambience, beautifully prepared dishes, and expert service were fantastic! We also appreciated the lovely personal touches, including a complimentary birthday treat (presented on a bouquet) and a personalized birthday card signed by the staff. We can't wait to go back!
