Contrary to popular belief, JJ's Restaurant is not named for popular owner Jimmy Frantzé. In 1985, Jimmy purchased JJ Malane's from his former business partner and the saloon's namesake. Malane's went away, but JJ's remained, and a West Plaza fine dining icon was born. Jimmy invested his enthusiasm and passion for exceptional contemporary American food, steaks and wine to build one of the finest restaurants in Kansas City just a block west of the Country Club Plaza. He helped create an environment that attracted and kept one of the most professional staffs in the region. My wife and I decided to make reservations for 2 on December 22nd at 5:30 pm knowing that it would be very busy. When we arrived, we were not surprised to see many wait staff going about serving the full restaurant with dozens of people waiting to be seated. We were seated only a brief time past our 5:30 seating time, but were promptly greeted by our capable waitress. We ordered soon as our drinks were served and the food arrive quickly and as ordered. We ordered blackened redfish which was served with mashed potatoes and perfectly prepared broccoli. I had a wonderfully rich lobster bisque that had small amounts of lobster meat along with floating croutons that were still crispy adding a nice textural element. This was served along with a wonderful/crusty basket of sour dough bread with soft butter served in small metal serving dishes. Our meal was outstanding as we had expected. A nice holiday treat for my wife and me.

Meghan (with an H) was absolutely amazing, and so was Kennedy. Great food and experience. Our filets were some of the best we've ever had. Only one suggestion, work on the expresso martini, please.
