Best Restaurants for Outdoor Dining in Newhaven

This is a treasure and exudes good taste. An instantly warm welcome from interested, intelligent and engaging staff. Good to meet Andrew who’s running it with grace and professionalism, honed from years of experience in Michelin starred places. The conservatory dining area is an elegant, nicely illuminated, well laid out and acoustically friendly area, ideal for conversation and thank goodness, with no mindless music, just the gentle hubbub of gastronomic appreciation. We had lunch with our octogenarian relative. I chose the vegan, butternut squash terrine….an exquisitely delicious triumph, the best I’ve ever eaten and a work of art! My husband’s burger, sumptuous beef, excellently seasoned, in a delightful brioche bun with beautiful chips. My mother in law chose gammon, perfectly tender and a ‘just right’ portion. Afterwards, very good coffee as our digestive. Later, we walked through to the older part of the pub and found a wonderful fireplace and cosy, seating areas that we’ll look forward to trying next time. This really is the nicest pub/restaurant and a discerning gourmet’s choice. We loved it and will be back.

Absolutely brilliant pizzas - mine was the white pizza with burrata and parma ham, my son had the daily special, a sort of spicy arrabiata with nduja. They offer 500cl carafes of wine, perfect for an early lunch. Do try the starters too - my nduja lasagne fritta were amazing. Very cheerful service, and prompt for a busy Saturday - but then we did book for 12 noon! By the time we left at 1, the was a queue of eight or so parties outside. We were very grateful to the table next to us for making sure we went to the football stadium by a sensible route and didn't try to walk!

Service and portion sizes have improves since opening, lovely new menu. Slightly pricey but great food and location, you get what you pay for.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was lively, but not overly noisy. There was a real mix of couples and larger groups enjoying the food. The service was friendly and efficient. The staff suggested dishes that went together and our order was taken quickly. When the food arrived it was very attractively presented. The portions were generous but above all it was delicious. Among the best Thai food I have eaten. The cost was a bit high, but it was worth it to receive food of this quality. Would definitely go back here.
