If you’re looking for an authentic tavern cuisine and rustic ambiance, Scotch Plains Tavern is the place to be. Located minutes from Essex Steam Train, Rt. 9, and I-95, guests can kick back with a drink and some wings in our newly renovated upstairs bar, redesigned in a modern vintage industrial style while maintaining the original bar from Oliver’s Tavern. The bar, retrofitted for additional space, was originally built in 1913 for a bar in Chicago where Al Capone is rumored to have regularly tipped a glass.

Each visit to Liv’s has been wonderful. Their local oysters are fantastic, fresh and delicious. Each course is nicely presented by the chefs and well paced by their experienced waiters. We enjoyed the oyster sampler and Cesar salad followed by the Moroccan Cod and Seared Tuna with Wasabi Mashed potatoes. A great destination especially in the off season to enjoy locally sourced cuisine that is curated to perfection. A superb meal and great local dining experience !

Everything was wonderful from the moment we walked in until we left. The check in crew knew we were on a date and even sat us in a cozy booth away from other families because we noted that we left our kids at home. It wasn’t necessary but it was so thoughtful. The salted caramel espresso martini was out of this world, the filet mignon was cooked perfectly at medium and so flavorful with the garlic butter. The rigatoni in vodka sauce was “absolutely amazing “ according to my husband. Then we actually ordered dessert which we never do. The brownie sundae was so delicious, we almost finished the whole thing! Our server was great, he was funny and checked on us often but too much. Unfortunately, I don’t recall his name but he was wearing a Cowboys Parsons jersey and he was the best! Highly recommend this place and will definitely be back!! We are sports ppl and the variety of games on the walls was awesome.

We went early, so the noise level was fine. Does get louder as the evening goes on. Food and service was too notch as we’ve come to expect. We were not disappointed and will be back.
