Since our early days as a tea room, we’ve been a respite for locals and visitors alike, offering a haven for conversation and memorable cuisine. The tradition continues as our culinary team has curated an inventive and elevated menu through New American cuisine while paying homage to the beloved dishes that have been served at the Tabard Inn for years. Executive Chef Matthew Zafrir came to the Tabard in 2023, bringing with him experience from various fine dining restaurants around D.C. such as minibar by José Andrés, Cranes, Revelers Hour, as well as Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore, MD. He also shares the Tabard's longstanding commitment to sourcing ingredients locally. Join us for a meal on our covered patio or one of our intimate dining rooms. Or enjoy drinks and light fare in our historic fireplace lounge, where you can enjoy our creative cocktails! A DC institution since 1922, we look forward to offering our guests all the comforts of a home away from home.

A social atmosphere fit for a president. Join us where vibrant cocktail culture meets fun elegance and comfort food at this Dupont Circle neighborhood favorite. It is said that while President Theodore Roosevelt loved to eat, to him the dinner table was less an occasion for fine dining than as a springboard for conversations. In keeping with this, we have created a stunning interior design for Teddy and the Bully Bar that keeps patrons talking. Reflecting Theodore Roosevelt’s love for simple American comfort food, including steaks, oysters, fried chicken and house-made cornbread, our seasonal menus feature a contemporary twist on classic comfort dishes with a focus on quality, local and simplicity. We pay special attention to sourcing from our local producers, representing President Roosevelt’s belief to “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” We offer an exciting happy hour, energetic bottomless brunch (Sundays), and a perfect match of social energy and food culture.

We went to tabard inn to celebrate our elopement earlier that day, and we were greeted with such warmth and excitement! The food was amazing; the cocktails were refreshing and thoughtfully crafted and we had an amazing time. Great meal! We only had a short time for dinner as we were headed to a concert. The staff was extremely attentive, served courses at a perfect pace so we were timely but didn’t feel rushed. Food was delicious and plentiful. And it is SO nice to eat in a restaurant where you don’t have to shout to be heard. We carried on our conversation at normal speaking levels and didn’t hear from those at tables near us. Convenient location and definitely will be back.
