Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution. It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers. All the while, the tavern continued to provide food, shelter and cheer to the hungry, weary soldiers fighting for their independence. We were just saying last night after we dined, we have never had a bad meal here. Quality is unmistakable, quantity is, well, on the abundant side, ( portions are too large, as is the case all across America). but our waitress, Aly, made the evening as enjoyable as ever! She was/is so professional with that sense of humor we love, she was attentive and gracious. Food was impeccable, as always. Parmesan crusted sole-yum!, calamari-outstanding! Steaks- delectable! Overall, great meal, a bit pricey, but well worth it on the occasional celebration 🎉

Frequent diner and will continue to go back. Service can vary extensively. Over the years it’s has seemed the most “off” during the holiday season and the latest trip showed no improvement there. Drinks and food service incredibly slow, despite the restaurant not seeming terribly chaotic on a Tuesday in December. Pricing is disproportionately high for the area and continues to outpace average at a best service and dining experience.
