Nestle into one of the bay window seats and enjoy conversation over a plate of charcuterie with the perfect glass of Bordeaux. Chef Sarrailh prepares seasonal specialties as well as favorite French classics like Steak Frites and Duck Confit. Having recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary on Union Street, Perry’s remains an enormously popular San Francisco institution. Perry Butler initially opened Perry’s in 1969, bringing to Union Street the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood saloons of New York’s Upper East Side. The blue and white checked tablecloths, hexagonal tiled floor, wood-paneled memorabilia clad walls, and menu of American classics produced an atmosphere that has held true today-- comfortable, inviting and cool. Testament to its timeless appeal, Perry’s is known today, as much as ever, for its classic American food, its warm personable service and a fun, bustling bar. Perry"s traditional yet innovative menu includes a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, pastas, steaks and grilled fresh fish.

Perry’s is known today, as much as ever, for its classic American food, its warm personable service and its fun, bustling bar. Perry's traditional yet innovative menu includes a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, pastas, steaks and grilled fresh fish. Perry’s on the Embarcadero is conveniently located in the heart of San Francisco’s bustling financial district, across the street from the Ferry Building, less than a mile from AT&T Park and easy to reach by public transportation from all over the city and the greater Bay Area.

We serve food that, more often than not, accesses that part of our deepest soul where genuine expression can flow forth. We have always tried to give our food and service our best selves, as honest and vulnerable as we can muster. We strive to be a place where you might actually have a real connection; maybe with your server, maybe with your food or maybe with your possibly gracious host who is ACTUALLY glad you’re there. Oh, you wanted a restaurant description? Sorry. Can’t really help you there. We’re not so big on labels. Our food is hard to nail down as we are constantly evolving and entirely seasonal and personal. We’ve used “Food you eat” as a tag line on occasion and that remains accurate. We could also describe it as “Food we really want you to eat”. When you’re here, tell us what you would call it.

Fable is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants in the Castro, my go-to. I love their patio dining, and the food is consistently good. This visit did not disappoint. The service and our server were fabulous. Our group ordered the pork chop, which was the hit of the evening. It was juicy, full of flavor, and served with roasted Brussels sprouts and sweet potato mash—a great combination. Someone ordered the cheeseburger, and it was good, consistent with prior visits. The only item we wouldn't order again was the cioppino. The person who ordered it said the soup lacked depth and complexity, and there was no crab in the dish. Overall, it was bland, even after they added the house-made habanero sauce.

Tucked away on a charming side street in Cow Hollow is this delightful French bistro that has stolen my heart (and tastebuds!). The ambiance is warm and inviting with soft lighting that casts a romantic glow and cozy, charming seating (indoors and out) with views of the quiet neighborhood. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making me feel right at home -- which is especially good since I spend about as much time eating at this restaurant as I do eating at home (I live across the street, and I am an awful cook!) But the true star of the show is the food. Every dish is flavorful, from the melt-in-your-mouth filet to the perfectly cooked coq a vin and duck confit. They also do a wonderful brunch with fluffy omelettes, quiche, eggs benedict, croque monsieur, french toast and more. And don't miss the frites -- they are great! The food portions are generous, and the ingredients are fresh and high-quality. Every meal I've eaten here has been delicious. If you're looking for a quintessential San Francisco French bistro experience, look no further! This hidden gem is a must-visit.
