Our Story The goal – to guarantee a wonderful meal with authentic cuisine and fabulous margaritas, serve over 50 artisanal and ancestral mezcals, and over 100 different types of tequila brands in a vibrant unique atmosphere that boasts excellent service. Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine opened in Astoria in 2021 with such a wonderful and successful home run that a second location opened in Patchogue in March 2022. Ruta Oaxaca means “Road to Oaxaca,” a historic state in the southern part of Mexico. Mr. Castillo and his Partners are keenly focused on honoring Oaxacan culinary traditions, whose fame is derived in great part from its many varieties of moles. By legend, these ancient recipes are more than sauces, they are the very focus of the meal. Ruta Oaxaca proudly features four moles, each prepared using the Oaxacan mole recipes that have made the cuisine world famous. The mole sauce was superb! I also was impressed that the Margarita was served in a chilled clay cup

Loved the food and the decor in this place. I know V day is amateur hour and sometimes can be overwhelming for staff but I feel like the staff was very green. They meant well and were always concerned but they made their frustrations and nervousness too obvious in the dining area. A couple of good wait staff could help that place kill it. The food is good enough to attract loyal clientele. Drinks were tasty but weak. Had to request stronger ones twice. Overall a good experience. I would go back but would love to see service improvements. Again, the staff meant well but they need some organization and direction.

We loved our evening at L’Artista!! The setting was quiet and intimate. The service was friendly and attentive. The only thing better than those is the food! The food is FANTASTICO!! The arincina took me right back to Sicily. My gnocci with gorgonzola, walnuts and pear was the best!!! Those little pillows absorbed the delicious sauce and then they melted in my mouth. The addition of pear and walnuts to the creamy gorgonzola sauce is perfection. My husband enjoyed the Bolognese, saying it was the best he’d had, extra meaty and flavorful. We’ll be back!!!
