Best Authentic Restaurants in Haiku

Absolutely delicious Italian food with all home made pasta and wood burning pizza. We had each ;) We took our 3 little children here for dinner last night for Valentine’s Day and it was loud and energetic, and we loved it!! It’s an Italian place, c’mon!! The service was the best we’ve had on island- as it always is, and the food came out piping HOT- the way we like it! There are no complaints! We didn’t have to worry about our kids being too loud bc it’s an energetic restaurant that had live music. Our night couldn’t have been any better. We will definitely return.

Wonderful friends gave us a gift card for Makawao Public House as we often raved about the wonderful meals we enjoyed there . As usual it didn’t disappoint. We tried the seared sashimi for the 1 st time and it was to die for . However you need to include a straw with the sauce so you can drink it all up as it is just phenomenal 😜 .Then we ordered the curry vegetables with grilled mahi and the short ribs , again it was cooked to perfection. Everything paired with a glass of Rose champagne and we had the best Valentine dinner . We had an early dinner reservations, so it was quiet , the waitress was lovely ,sweet and personable. We are so happy to have another restaurant choice upcountry. Mahalo

Just make the drive here. The locals and frequent travelers to Maui already know about this fabulous restaurant…but if you are a newbie, please “just do it”.. you will not regret it. We have been coming to HGS 1-2 times a year for decades. I cannot imagine traveling to Maui without at least one stop here for lunch or dinner. It’s no longer the original owner, however we’ve been back at least five times since the sale and the quality of food is still exemplary! The dining here far exceeds any other place on the island. The ribs have always been a favorite, along with the mahi mahi ….. and the appetizers are spectacular. We are not typically dessert foodies, however you cannot leave here without sharing the award winning Pineapple Upside down cake. Thank you, Franchesco, for stopping by our table to chat ! Best nigiri on the island!!! Soba dishes 4+/5- Overall--- is highly recommended!!! Will definitely come back!

If you can't find joy dining in this open-air cafe, there are bigger problems. This beautiful, sunny courtyard just puts a smile on your face. Surrounded by pretty flowers, trees and a light breeze...it is quintessential "Hawaii" at its best. The food was good. Fresh ingredients, made to order. I had the banana bread french toast. It was outstanding. My guests had everything from an omelet to the breakfast wrap. All of it was good. The service left very little to be desired. Food from other tables was being brough to our table, drinks took a very long time, waitstaff seemed preoccupied and confused. We received food at our table several times that wasn't ours. No big deal, it got rerouted just fine...but it all seemed a little clunky. And when you would try to solicit some assistance, it fell on deaf ears. Does the medicore service kick this location out of contention for further breakfast visits? Absolutely not. Go enjoy this beautiful little spot...just bring a little more patience than you usually do.
