- KKarenChicago / Illinois •3 reviews4.0Dined 2 days agoWe were excited to finally have the chance to eat at Jordyn’s. My boyfriend, my mother and I arrived for our 5:30 reservation and when we walked in, we had to stand in line waiting for the hostess to take ‘to go’ food orders. We stood probably about 10 minutes waiting. When it was our turn, the hostess was very nice and thanked us for our patience. While the restaurant itself isn’t very big, it is decorated nicely. When we arrived at our table, the first thing we noticed was the chairs had very short backs. My mother is 85 years old and I was concerned about her sitting in a chair that she could not lean back in. The chairs sit very low, and the tables are tall, so I felt like a kid in a highchair! I asked for one of the two empty booths, but was told those were for larger parties. Anyway, on to the service. Our server arrived fairly quickly after we were seated, but that was where the quickness ended. It took a LONG time for the food to come out, roughly 30-40 minutes. My boyfriend’s food didn’t come out for another 20 minutes. The saving grace…the food was really good! I had smothered pork chops with sweet potatoes and collard greens, my mother had fried chicken, sweet potatoes and collard greens, my boyfriend had smothered chicken, mac and cheese and broccolini. Everyone enjoyed their food. Be warned, there is 20% gratuity added to parties of TWO or more. Kayla, the food runner, was sweet as pie and kept checking on our food for us. So to sum it up, would we go back again? yes, but we agreed we would try a different time of day. OH, one more thing, it is BYOB, no liquor served! I do recommend this restaurant but I am hopeful they will smooth out the rough edges.More infoJordyn’s Soul Cafe - Hyde ParkPrice: Moderate• Soul food• Hyde Park•3.7

The food was great, the overall service was satisfactory except towards the end of our dining experience when we got ready to say happy birthday and cut the cake we then encounter rudeness and sarcasm from the manager about the noise level and the cake rules also there was a guy working there not sure if he was security but he was just as rude.More infoThe L StationPrice: Expensive• Soul food• River North (Chicago)•4
