Opening their first location in the spring of 1984, Helen Babalos & Thomas Makris brought us Anatoli Souvlaki. They had a dream of combining the food of Greece with great service to add some Mediterranean style to the North Vancouver restaurant selection. They opened in the sleepy neighbourhood of lower Lonsdale and lived above the restaurant to ensure the quality and service. They were able to create a North Vancouver staple, a successful thriving restaurant based on faithful patrons and a reputation that has been passed through generations.In 2011, the family-run restaurant was taken over by their sons Alexi and Iani. In 2015, the brothers, alongside their cousin Daniel Bergman, expanded on their parent’s dream by opening The Greek in Yaletown, with a focus on mezze-style dining. Now open in Gastown. Thomas Makris, from the Island of Skopelos, fell in love when he met Helen Babalos. They met at Orestes Greek restaurant in 1974, while on a Greek dancing tour of North America. What an amazing experience at Loula’s for my best friend’s birthday! We had a big group of 10 and our experience was excellent from before we even sat down. The wonderful Sierra worked some magic to fit our big table in and then the incredible Paige took phenomenal care of us all night! The food and drinks were top notch – I already can’t wait to go back. Thank you Loula’s!

Music in the restaurant is amazing, super vibes and the perfect volume. Cocktails are outstanding. Food is great as well. We had the chefs menu (55$ per person) and it came with 7 courses. The first 3 were great on their own but when put back to back it became very salty. (Anchovies on toast, olives, pickled vegetables, salad with salty vinaigrette). 3 dishes that are salt forward following each other was a little much. So the rest of the dishes were a welcome variation of flavour.

Exceptional food and wonderful choices of beverages. The staff was great with the kids and could recognize when to check in with parents about drink options. Our server was excellent at recognizing when we needed more time, when we needed help, and who to talk to in order to minimize disruptions or interruptions. The meats and seafood were prepared to perfect finishes. Portions suggested were reasonable and the overall bill was actually quite reasonable for a meal of this calibre.
