The Plough isn't your average countryside pub. Sitting on a quiet lane in a quintessentially English village, The Plough was set to be sold off the developers when 120 members of the community came together to invest, and save, their local. After its purchase and renovation, the Yates family took over the kitchen and opened the pub's small, but proud, restaurant, Bowleys. Head Chef Alex Yates is still very early on in his career but though only in his early twenties, he has already spent two years in the kitchens at The Goring Hotel in London, as well as having gained experience with Rick Stein and even once cooking for the Queen. An amazing experience! The food was gorgeous and the decor was insane! What a fabulous way to begin the festive celebrations. The Sugar Plum Fairy would have approved! Best food was the Stilton and Cranberry muffin followed by the Raspberry Ripple mousse. No way we were going to have room for it all but the carry home box was exquisite in itself. Thank you for a truly unforgettable afternoon. We will be back for the Regency in January!

I was a little bit disappointed as I came last year with work colleagues and there were 2 massive Christmas trees outside the entrance and carol singers as you walked in. This year were a couple of bare branches with a few bows on and no carol singers. I wanted to bring my family as I had such a lovely time last year but as I said it was a little different this year. My family still enjoyed the experience as they had never been before so had nothing to compare it to. I would still go again.

I had a wonderful pre-holiday lunch with my wife! The cocktails were spot on. The partridge was cooked the way I like it. The staff were whirring about like madmen and women but never missed a beat, were attentive to every detail, and knew what I wanted before I even did. Thanks for the wonderful holiday send off!
