Best Contemporary Canadian Restaurants in Calgary

Ten Foot Henry is my favourite restaurant in Calgary and has been consistently for years!! My favourite dish of the night was the new “marinated beets” with mama ghanoush, salted ricotta (I omitted due to dairy allergy) & cured zucchini - A true chefs kiss/honourable mention to this extraordinary explosion of flavours, vivid colours and complimentary textures which paired superb with my delightful blueberry roiboos tea! Second time at Pat and Betty’s and it was just as good as the first. Consistently delicious. Food was excellent and our server, Taylor, was awesome. There was a slight hiccup with timing of the dishes but it was quickly rectified and made right. This is a must try for sure. You won’t regret it. I will definitely be going back

As mentioned on a previous post by another reviewer, not crazy about the surcharge prior to booking, however, there is a rationale. This is one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had with food service. Great ambience and interaction by all staff. They really know the food and the taste of the food. More importantly, they are clearly educated about the food contents and taste, which demonstrates how much care and detail goes into their efforts. Five star service. The Brussel sprouts have to be tasted, and with the menu changing daily, it’s hard to describe how good the beets and Brie appetizer was in writing. My wife and I just discussed ordering four appetizers as our next meal, one at a time for the full flavour profile experience. Highly recommend. Will be back.

Update: I am so impressed by the chef & managers response to my review and the way they’ve handled the situation. I received a lovely and sincere phone call apologizing and offering a re-do of our dinner and experience. I did not expect such a gesture and regardless of our recent experience, we always love the Wednesday room and this shows us exactly why. We can’t wait to come back. Thank you Derek & Danielle. We are disappointed with our recent visit to The Wednesday Room. We have a tradition to spend every valentines there as a special treat, as it’s hard to get out as parents of two young kids. I made our reservation 2 weeks in advance, and when we arrived we were seated at the worst table at the bottom of the stairs. We had an early reservation for 6, and saw other tables empty while we sat at our table. The chairs they had us in were meant for a living room and so uncomfortable and annoying to try and eat the table with, and it was absolutely FREEZING. They had a space heater that hardly worked and couldn’t be felt. Our food arrived and immediately went cold before we could finish or enjoy it. We asked to be moved and our request was disregarded. For a $200+ bill I could have had a way better experience somewhere instead of needing to sit uncomfortably in my winter jacket on the one night my husband and I get to go out. That table shouldn’t even be an option to sit in. The server was lovely and could tell we were upset but couldn’t do anything. I’m so disappointed.

It's been a long while since I've left a review like this. We've become accustomed to "it was good" so when a GREAT experience comes along, I know I owe the review it earned. From the front door to last goodbye, the cocktails, pop-up appetizer menu, the wine, the mains and the service from an outstanding lady named Jewel everything was exceptional. The extensive and unique cocktail menu was a fun opener and we enjoyed 3 spectacular choices. Love the overreaching print shop theme in drink names. Next up was a one night only, pop up appetizer menu/ desert menu he in conjunction with Salt & Brick. These a-la-carte selections were so so tasty - we had 4 different ones each hard to rank from favourite in down - lots of tied for second. We had the braised rib and the sablefish dish which was mine. It was delicate and so full of amazing flavours that worked incredible together - some charcoal smoke in the fish and cabbage balanced with the miso and citrus- 20/10 and I don't say that lightly. My husband enjoyed the braised short rib and it was big, tender, juicy and flavourful 10/10. I stalled on selecting a wine and Jewels arrived at the perfect moment with a suggestion that brought out the best in both the dish and wine. We chatted with her about the restaurant including the menus, chef and staff. The pride that everyone took in ensuring things were "just so" was evident. The chef beamed from the kitchen when she told him how much we enjoyed the food and she told us how he is so kind and is making the kitchen such a fun place to be a part of. We left with full bellies and felt great about supporting a place that seems to be doing everything right. I just popped a quick Look at the webpage and saw this "We had long wanted to develop a restaurant concept centered around making people feel special." Well I'd say you did it. You can tell Jewel feels it's special and we did too. My husband already has a business meal planned and we will be back. Pure awesome. Thanks Jewels!!!
