The views of Primland’s rolling fairways and verdant forest landscapes could easily distract if the cuisine and generous interiors at Leatherflower did not command your full attention. Savor refined seasonal dishes that highlight native ingredients from Primland’s own farm and greenhouse, as well as the local mills, farms and suppliers. Climb the stairs to the secluded second floor of Primland’s former horse stables and discover traditional Southern food and music at its very best. Available year-round for private parties and events, the rustic Stables Saloon regularly hosts live bluegrass music concerts and is part of the Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. On Friday and Saturday evenings, as the strains of a lively banjo drift towards the sunset, feast on barbecued beef brisket, buttermilk fried chicken, smoked pork shoulder, roasted corn and more. The laid back vibe will have you never wanting to leave.

To start, the restaurant is simply beautiful during the holiday season. When we walked in we were greeted with smiles and warmth from a wood burning fire in the lobby area. Once seated, we had a view of yet another fireplace. Service was spot on and the wine very nice. However, it is the food that stole the evening. I had the ribeye rare and my wife had the ribeye medium rare. Both were cooked to perfection. The sides were delicious. We were too stuffed to have desert there but brought one home for a treat the next day. Would definitely recommend.

We had a lovely lunch celebrating our 32nd anniversary at JoLo Winery on Dec 20, 2024. The service was beyond friendly! We were given a glass of their delicious Twinkles in honor of our anniversary! We had the crab dip appetizer which is so delicious! My husband tried a lunch special, beer battered halibut which was as light as air and melt in your mouth! This came with a side of crispy French fries. I had the chicken pesto flatbread which was also very tasty! I had a glass of their Devil’s Hill wine and I highly recommend this earthy red! We love the ambience and quality of this family winery! It is even more beautiful in the warmer times of the year!

We had a great weekend away at Primland. Ate a few meals at Leatherflower and loved every one. Staff is super kind and attentive. A lot of locally sourced items which I think is pretty awesome. Would definitely come back.

I would only add signage to the building itself. The road is marked but the restaurant has no visible signs so we drove around wondering if it was someone’s large mountain home or not. No lights and no signs.
