Capture a magical moment of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s past as you dine in one of its most historic buildings. The four-diamond Cannery Restaurant of today is reminiscent of its former life as a canning factory in the 1800s, where Niagara peaches and tomatoes were canned until 1957. Chef Mark Longster continues to serve up the best of the region in his menus which feature the freshest local produce and fine wines. Chef Longsters food is prepared and presented perfectly, for your ultimate dining experience.

We ordered the wedge and Caesar salads plus the tuna poke appetizers. All were excellent. We ordered various beef dishes from the a la cart menu (prime rib, beef tenderloin and ribeye). All were expertly prepared and presented. The toppings tray for the baked potato is a very nice touch. Thumbs up as well for the desserts. The Brookie was a table favorite and, since a member of our party has a nut allergy, we were happy to learn it was nut-free. Would heartily recommend for a holiday meal or any special occasion.

Came for Christmas Brunch. A lovely setup, but quite a long line to get in. That can’t really be helped though, since you’re being seated at either 11:00am or 1:30pm. We had opted for the latter. Service was very good. We were served coffee immediately, though our bottle of wine took a while to arrive. It was very busy though, so no big deal on that either. It happens and our server was friendly and hospitable. Unfortunately the food was a bit of an issue. Pastries, salads, cold seafood and charcuterie were wonderful. Eggs Benedict also very good, cooked perfectly and warm. Lovely hollandaise. Very good prime rib, done a perfect medium rare. Great salmon also. Partner tried the omelette station, which was quite watery on the plate. Again, it happens. No big deal. Turkey very dry, stuffing subpar, potatoes/cranberry/carrot puree just ok. Lamb the same. Passed on the pancakes/waffles/toast/yogurt so can’t say anything there. Dessert the biggest letdown here. Beautiful carrot cake and Nutella profiteroles. Cupcakes with store bought frosting, Yule log extremely sweet and again tasted very store bought. Cheesecake grainy. Cookies, etc. were fine, but they’re cookies and hard to screw up. Overall this gets a 7.5/10 for me. Nice to try, but I wouldn’t go for brunch again. Would do Christmas dinner instead. Service really saved the day: very nice people. Also noted the great selection of gluten free and labelled items, though I have no allergies myself.

Beef was tough. Had to ask for sharp knife which I never received. Waitress was good though. Coffee was good. Lamb was awful. No Christmas spirit decorations or music

We attended the Christmas brunch at 130 Dec 25. We were very disappointed in the food. The hot food choices were not hot. The yolk of the eggs Benedict were like hard boiled eggs and the muffin they were on was rock hard. The turkey, dressing and gravy were all mixed together with no way to have extra gravy on the mashed potatoes. There were not adequate serving utensils beside the food warmers. We were very excited to see brussel sprouts offered, however they were not cooked well enough, almost crunchy. We had cheese cake for dessert and it was very dry, seemed like it was not fresh. The only food choice that was hot , was the omelet we had special made. This was our first time going out to a restaurant for a Christmas meal and unfortunately , it was a dreadful experience. The server for our table was attentive with water and coffee.

Our annual pre Christmas stay at the Pillar and Post. Lovely Holiday ambience accompanied by a perfect prime rib dinner at the Cannery restaurant with all the trimmings. A bit pricey but definitely worth it. Keeps us coming back every year.

The ambience was excellent. The service was timely and thorough, and our meals were delicious. We both ordered the New York Striploin, and my husband substituted the truffle mash (which was divine) for the garlic mash. They also were really accommodating with his peanut/ tree nut (anaphalytic) allergy. To our surprise, he was able to order dessert of the menu, and our server Bryton triple checked to ensure it was okay. We ordered the Brookie. It arrived garnished with some fruit and whip cream and a beautiful Happy Birthday message (as I was ringing in my birthday). Top notch!

This was our first time dining at the Cannery as we were celebrating our 51st Anniversary we wanted something special, elegant and with wonderful food to make our day extra special. That is exactly what we got. From the moment the young lady at the front desk greet us we knew we were in for a wonderful evening. The many rooms were decorated for the season and done beautifully. Bryton, our waiter was superb. He greeted us warmly explained the chef's special and gave us time to look over the menu have many discussions between our Daughter and ourselves as to what spoke to us. When our meals arrived 2 of the Bacon wrapped filet dinners and one Braised Short Ribs, they looked perfect and tasted even better than they looked our Filet's were cooked to perfection and our waiter was there when needed and every time he passed by the table he eye checked to see if anything was needed. Dessert is something any of us rarely have but who could resist the New York Cheesecake which our daughter and my wife shared with it's 'Happy Anniversary ' chocolate writing. while I enjoyed the trifle - only complaint there was it could have come out of the fridge earlier--will request that when we next enjoy an evening at The Cannery. Our evening at the Pillar & Post Cannery restaurant was the perfect way to celebrate a Special Occasion, or simply treat yourself to a evening out with pampering in a delightful setting. Then The Cannery in Niagara on the Lake is the place for you!!! ENJOY
