Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution. It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers. All the while, the tavern continued to provide food, shelter and cheer to the hungry, weary soldiers fighting for their independence. Today, we honor our historic tavern’s tradition with a mission to raise the spirits of our guests. We invite you to experience the small and large plates, craft beers and revolutionary hospitality that is Black Powder Tavern.

Best Onion Soup I've had in a long time! We were seated quickly and our server, Zoe, immediately greeted us. She was friendly and checked in on us regularly. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and dress is casual. Just what I hoped for on a Saturday night! We'll be back soon!

The guy playing the music had his amp pointed right at our table and we couldn't hear ourselves talk. The waitress wouldn't point the amp somewhere else or move us so we just had to sit there and suffered. Not good

A friends gathering on a wet day, we both decided on Soup and Salad. The French Onion Soup was hot and delicious. . We both chose the Chopped Salad. It was good, but drowning in dressing. I could only eat half and brought the rest home. By the time I got home, it was so limp from all the dressing I had to toss it. They could have used 1/3 of the amount of dressing and it would have been great.

The food and service were excellent, but since I was dining with a friend that Idon't see often, we enjoyed not being rushed and staying longer to chat and catch.

It’s hit or miss at Black Powder Tavern. Last nights dining experience was a big miss. Slow service is typical there so not unexpected. One person at our table ordered the burger and fries. Zero seasoning detected on the burger the fries were not hot, dense and unseasoned. I ordered the harvest salad which was so over dressed it made me cough, the salmon I paid to add on was overcooked and dry. Reports from the member of our party who ordered the Cajun Mac and cheese said it was “really good”.
